Back to the small town life

Tonight I have a big smile on my face. Why? Because I haven’t felt this peaceful for a long time. This morning i drove to the airport with my dog and two suitcases and flew off into the lovely countryside in Iceland, to a small town named Suðureyri.

Now, I don’t know who reads this, so I cannot be sure you all have the same measurements for a “small town” as I do. I shall give you an example of what I mean when I say “small town”: A small town is when some one sneezes down at the docks on one end of town, and you hear it over to the other end; A small town is when you can meet all the inhabitants in one go at the community center in the middle of town without feeling you are stuck in a crowd; a small town is when you can walk from one end of town to the other and back in less than an hour… even a lot less; A small town is when the towns cafe, hotel and only grocery store/gas station/fast food joint are run by the same company; a small town is where everyone knows immediately that you are a new arrival, have never been there before and are not related to anyone there.
Getting the picture yet? I’m talking small town, as in less than 300 inhabitants. And it’s WONDERFUL.

Now a lot of people have asked me, WHY?! Why would I go from the capital and to that tiny little community? Well, because I can. Because I like it. Because I need it, and because I think it’s mighty good for me. But most of all, because I am a writer, and trying new things, going new places, meeting new people is all a part of that job. What better way to get inspiration than moving to a town you’ve never been before and becoming part of it? I think this summer will be one of the best ones of my life. And I will have loads of free time for writing.

But now I’m tired so I wont add any smart things to this post. I just wanted to get this first happy feeling down on digital paper and onto my blog 🙂

peace.
